Experiencing Art
Welcome back families! The Art room will be safe for your little ones with sneeze-guards, individualized materials, social distancing, and frequent disinfecting. Materials/tools such as scissors, pencils, brushes, clay tools, crayons, erasers, and markers will be disinfected after each use.
Other materials like paper, clay, paint, yarn, glue, craft sticks will be used once and kept by the child or thrown away. Each child needs a personal "Art Kit" to work on their masterpieces. The "Art Kit" should have 2 sharpened pencils, eraser, crayons, and a glue stick that will be kept in the Art room. The children attend Art every 4 days which will give time for any viruses to die off. Kits should be labeled with the child's first and last name. There are extra items for kits if a child runs out of something. A few teachers have already made up their class kits!!! We are asking for donations of pencils and glue sticks for these run out often. Please keep in mind that Art will be “Make it, take it” to limit the transmission of germs.
Primary
The children in grades K-2 are learning about mask masking.
Secondary
The children in grades 3-5 are learning about the history of MASKS and creating one out of paper. They will also write how they feel with their masks on. The earliest use of masks was for rituals and ceremonies, and the oldest found mask is from 7000 BC.
“Behind every mask, there is a face, and behind that a story."
Art in the Community
The 2020-21 school year will have limited Art contests and shows until we get the all-clear signal. That does not mean you cannot show off your child's work on the fridge or purchase a small shadowbox picture frame to display the art on your wall.
Ceramics
The Afterschool Ceramics Class has a new name!!! It's now called 3-D ART. This will be held on Thursdays for six consecutive weeks starting with the 4th and 5th graders. 3-D means three dimensional which may include clay, cardboard, wood, styrofoam, wire, rocks, or medal. The 4th and 5th grade 3-D Art flyers will be coming home shortly. It is on a first-come basis. Please remember the class has to abide by social distancing, therefore only 15 children can attend.
